the class in order
The Basiliko tavern class, from the garden to the table
What happens at each stage of the afternoon, and what to do about it.
Reserve your place at the tavern ↗The class, stage by stage
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| Arrival | You reach the tavern in Potamia village |
| Garden | You collect ingredients and hear about the herbs |
| Cooking | Hands-on Naxian recipes with the instructor |
| River and cheese | An optional river walk and cheese being made by a local producer |
| Feast | The dishes you cooked, with local wine and some starters |
| Music | Traditional music, and for many groups some dancing |
Before you leave
Choose your date, arrange the ride out to Potamia and tell the hosts about any allergies when you book. Pack comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen.
The garden
The class starts with ingredients picked straight from the garden. The instructor explains the herbs and aromatic plants, so have your questions ready.
The cooking
This is the hands-on part: Naxian recipes made with local, fresh produce. Some guests say they would have liked more time at the stove, so ask to be given a task.
The river and the cheese
A short walk up to the local river is optional, and the class includes a look at cheese being made by a local producer.
The meal
The lesson becomes a feast: your own dishes, local wine and some starters. Take your time over it.
The finish
Traditional music joins the table. Several guests write about Greek dancing and plate smashing, though nothing promises it.
